About

Heavy metal band Archspire partnered with our creative tech studio, Departure Lounge, to create Bleed the Future, an ambitious music video. Using cutting-edge virtual production, we brought terrifying creatures and fictional worlds to life, seamlessly merging them with live-action footage for a visually groundbreaking experience.

Cinematic Results

  • A monstrous, tentacled creature as a deadly force

  • A haunting underworld with a cult-like atmosphere

The Role

As Virtual Producer, I managed stakeholder relations, set coordination, and team workflows to create key video scenes. I collaborated with the band, directors, and VFX teams, ensuring smooth communication and shaping the production process to navigate the project's complexity.

The Challenge

The biggest challenge was merging volumetric capture, LED volumes, and photogrammetry with traditional filmmaking into a seamless workflow. This was essential for creating two distinct fictional scenes with authentic human performances—achieved more cost-effectively than CGI while maintaining high quality.

The Process

  • Volumetric Stage Testing – Experimented with prop dynamics, makeup FX, suspension rigging, and large-scale capture setups to refine techniques.

  • Segmented Filming – Captured each actor’s performance separately and integrated them into a cohesive virtual world in Unreal Engine.

  • Innovative Replication – Filmed a single cult servant and replicated him into an army with synchronized movements for a wide shot.

  • Independent Rigging – Rigged the original cultist for individual movement in a focused scene.

Outcomes

  • A woman’s terrifying transformation into a monstrous creature

  • A massive beast attacking each band member with its tentacle-like limbs

  • An eerie underworld with a vast cult worshipping a grotesque, gooey monument

After documenting the process and analyzing the results, I developed an optimized workflow: two days of shooting, two weeks of post-production, and a streamlined 6–8 week timeline for future projects.
